1497 - Vasco-da-gama started from Lisbon his exploration of the route to India.

1907 - Elphinstone Picture Palace (Film theater) was opened in Calcutta
1918 - Montagu - Chelmsford report was published.
1954 - Bhakra-Nangal dam canal was inaugurated.
1991 - 25 tonnes of gold was moved to London as security for a loan
1991 - L K Advani became Leader of Opposition in 10th Lok Sabha
1996 - Mathematical Olympiad was first held in Mumbai.
